Education
When a musical video or just lyrical genius can actually TEACH you something, you can learn from what you see or hear!

Personal Identification
We tend to find our own idea of the messages being sent in a song. We enjoy and can relate to music videos more if they display their own personal messages to the spectator. This can release escapism and also form to the social interaction of music videos if others are making the messages their own.
Social Interaction
Artists provide a star image. Spectators can compare this 'star image' to other artists and share with other fans.
Artists tell a story.Audiences can relate these to their real life issues and share with others. Similarly to the Goodwin's critical theory about 'personal identification', the messages portrayed under these two conventions can overlap.
Entertainment
Music video's are fantasies. There are no restrictions in what the artist can portray, keeping the viewer interested.
Videos are split into dance performance and instrumental performance. Both these need to be twinned to make an entertaining video. The song itself is not just the main part of the video, a radio broadcast can feed this. It is a visual item so dance is just as important.
(voyeuristic objectification): Audiences enjoy watching a character passively without being watched, encouraging the spectator to take pleasure.
